The Philippines: at least 1200 killed in Typhoon Haiyan, BBC Arabic (London), 9 November 2013

Early Red Cross estimates placed the death toll resulting from typhoon Haiyan at 1,200. The massive typhoon is believed to be the largest to ever hit land.

قدر الصليب الأحمر الفلبيني عدد القتلى الذين سقطوا جراء إعصار هايان الذي ضرب مدينة تاكلوبان الساحلية الجمعة بأكثر من ألف قتيل

وأضاف الصليب الأحمر أن ما لا يقل عن 200 شخص لقوا حتفهم عندما ضرب الإعصار إقليم سمار

وأوضحت الأمينة العامة للصليب الأحمر الفليبني، غويندولين بانغ، إن الأرقام التي أدلت بها استمدت من تقارير أولية قدمتها فرق الصليب الأحمر في مدينة تاكلوبان وإقليم سمار وهما من المناطق الأكثر تضررا جراء الإعصار

وأضافت قائلة إن ” أكثر من ألف جثة شوهدت وهي تطفو في شوارع تاكلوبان، بينما شوهدت نحو 200 جثة في سمار. نحن الآن بصدد توثيق هذه الأرقام

وتابعت قائلة إنها تتوقع إصدار رقم أدق بعد الانتهاء من إجراءات عد الجثث الملقاة على الطريق في هاتين المنطقتين

وأدى الإعصار الى تهديم المباني والى انهيارات ارضية. وشرع الجيش الفلبيني في حملة اغاثة لمساعدة المتضررين

يذكر ان إعصار هايان يعتبر من اعتى الاعاصير التي تضرب اليابسة على الإطلاق

Philippines: At least 1,200 dead due to Typhoon Haiyan

The Philippine Red Cross estimates that more than a thousand people have been killed in Typhoon Haiyan, which hit the coastal city of Tacloban on Friday.

The Red Cross added that at least 200 people died when the typhoon hit Samar province.

The secretary general of the Philippine Red Cross, Gwendolyn Pang, explained that the figures are derived from initial reports submitted by Red Cross groups in the city of Tacloban and Samar province, two of the worst affected areas by the typhoon.

She added that ‘more than a thousand bodies were seen floating in the streets of Tacloban, while around 200 bodies were seen in Samar. We are now in the process of documenting these numbers.’

She continued by saying she expects to issue an accurate number after all the bodies in these regions have been counted.

The typhoon caused landslides and demolition of buildings. The Philippine military has launched a relief campaign to help those who have been affected.

Typhoon Haiyan is considered to be one of the worst typhoons that has ever hit land.
