‘Student killed during clashes in Fes,’ Annahar (Lebanon), 26 April 2014

Clashes between two student groups at the Dher Mehrez university campus in Fes have left one student dead and two others injured. An Islamist group associated with the current ruling party and a left-wing group clashed on Thursday. The cause of the fighting, in which knives were reported to have been used, has not been determined.

قتل طالب وأصيب اثنان آخران في مواجهات بين فصيلين طالبيين داخل الحرم الجامعي “ظهر المهراز” في مدينة فاس، بوسط المغرب

وجاء في بيان صادر عن ولاية مدينة فاس، أن “المركب الجامعي ظهر المهراز، بمدينة فاس، شهد الخميس مناوشات، تطورت في ما بعد إلى مواجهات بين طلبة كل من فصيلي التجديد الطالبي والنهج الديموقراطي القاعدي، استعملت فيها الأسلحة البيضاء

وقال انه “نتج من هذه المواجهات إصابة ثلاثة طلاب نقلوا فورا إلى المستشفى الجامعي الحسن الثاني بفاس لتلقي العلاجات الضرورية، قبل أن تعلن إدارة المستشفى اليوم الجمعة (أمس) وفاة الطالب عبد الرحيم الحسناوي بقسم الإنعاش حيث كان يخضع لعلاجات مكثفة”. وتعتبر منظمة التجديد الطالبي في الجامعة المغربية، كما تصف نفسها، فصيلاً طالبيا إسلاميا “منحازاً الى المشروع الإصلاحي الرسالي لحركة التوحيد والإصلاح” التي تعتبر الذراع الدعوية لحزب العدالة والتنمية الإسلامي، الذي يقود الائتلاف الحكومي الحالي

أما النهج الديموقراطي القاعدي، فهو فصيل يساري راديكالي يؤمن بالصراع الطبقي و”قيادة الطبقة العاملة للثورة الديموقراطية الشعبية”، وكلا الفصيلين الإسلامي واليساري منضو تحت لواء اتحاد طلبة المغرب




Student killed during clashes in Fes

One student was killed and two others injured in clashes between two student factions inside the “Dher Mehrez” campus in the city of Fes in central Morocco.

A statement issued by the Wilaya of Fes said that “on Thursday, the campus of Dher Mehrez in Fes witnessed skirmishes, which turned into clashes between students from two the factions Attajdid Tollabi and Annahj Al-Democrati Al-Qaedi, in which knives were used.”

The statement said that “these clashes resulted in injuries to three students who were immediately transported to the Hassan II University Hospital in Fes to receive the necessary treatments, before hospital administration announced on Friday the death of Abderrahim Hasnaoui in the resuscitation unit where he was undergoing intensive care.” Attajdid Tollabi (Student Renewal) is an organization in Moroccan universities that describes itself as an Islamist student faction “in favour of the reform project of the Harakat al-Tawhid wal-Islah (Unity and Reform Movement),” which is the advocacy wing of the Islamist Hizb Al-Adalah wal-Tanmiyah (Justice and Development Party – JDP), which leads the current coalition government.

Annahj Al-Democrati Al-Qaedi (The Basic Democratic Path), is a radical left-wing faction that believes in the class struggle and “leadership of the working class for the popular democratic revolution.” Both the Islamist and leftist factions are part of the Moroccan students union.
