‘Clashes between the Iraqi Army and the Mahdi Army in Muzaffar Square in Sadr City’, Law of Iraq (Iraq), 11th March 2014

Despite their supposed demobilization in 2008, members of the Mahdi Army led by the Shi’a preacher Muqtadr al-Sadr in Southern Iraq got into a fire fight with the Iraqi military after attempting to break into an office belonging to the Dawa political party.

اشتباكات بين الجيش العراقي وجيش المهدي في ساحة مظفر بمدينة الصدر

افاد مصدر امني في بغداد، اليوم الثلاثاء، بان اشتباكات اندلعت في ساحة مظفر بمدينة الصدر بين الجيش العراقي وجيش المهدي بعد محاولة جيش المهدي اقتحام مكتب حزب الدعوة.

واوضح المصدر لـ”عراق القانون” ان اشتباكات اندلعت بين الجيش العراقي وعددا من افراد جيش المهدي بعد محاولتهم اقتحام مكتب تابع لحزب الدعوة في ساحة مظفر في مدينة الصدر”.

واضاف ان “الجيش العراقي رد على المسلحين الذين قاموا باطلاق نار كثيف باتجاه المكتب “.

واشار الى ان الجيش العراقي “قام بغلق مدخل القناة باتجاه ساحة مظفر وشارع الفلاح والشارع المؤدي من الساحة الى منطقة جميلة ولم يسمح للمواطنين بالخروج من منازلهم ، كما انتشرت وحدات من الجيش في منطقة الامانة القريبة من مكان الحدث “.

Clashes between the Iraqi Army and the Mahdi Army in Muzaffar Square in Sadr City

A security source in Baghdad said today, on Tuesday, that clashes erupted in Mazaffar Square in Sadr City between the Iraqi Army and Mahdi Army after the Mahdi Army attempted to storm into the offices of the Dawa Party.

The source explained to ‘Law of Iraq’ “that the clashes erupted between the Iraqi Army and a number of individuals from the Mahdi Army after they attempted to break into the office of the Dawa Party in Muzaffar Square in Sadr City.”

He added that “the Iraqi Army responded to the gunmen who opened heavy fire upon the office.”

He referred to that the Iraqi Army “closed the channel of entrance into Muzaffar Square through al-Falaah Street and the street leading from the Square to a beautiful area, not allowing residents to leave their houses. In addition Individuals from the military were spread throughout the area of al-Amana near the place where clashes occurred.
