‘Drug usage statistics amongst Moroccan students,’ 24 January 2014

The Moroccan health ministry has released what it is calling “shocking” statistics regarding smoking, drinking and drug usage amongst Moroccan students.

The Department of Health in education institutions revealed shocking statistics about the situation of Moroccan youths and their relationship with dangerous behaviours. The statistics showed that 52% of youths suffer from problems related to drugs, alcohol and smoking, while  33%  suffer from mental health issues. In this vain, the department explained that 15.5% of pupils between the ages of 13-15 are smokers and that 8% of males consume alcohol, compared to 3.5% of females. Meanwhile, 3% of youths use drugs and 2.8% suffer from addiction. The report indicated that 50% of youths participate in sporting activities, at a time when violence spread at a rate of 70.3% amongst youths between the ages of 18-24.
