‘Clarification from the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria about purported presence of a representative in the Geneva II Conference’ Muslim Brotherhood (Syria), 22 January 2014
The Muslim Brotherhood has denied reports that they sent a delegate to the Geneva II conference on Syria.
–نفي من جماعة الإخوان المسلمين في سورية حول وجود ممثل لها في مؤتمر جنيف
لقد كان موقف جماعة الإخوان المسلمين من مؤتمر جنيف 2 واضحاً في رفضها مشاركة الائتلاف بالمؤتمر الدولي، لقناعتها بعدم جدواه، واحتجاجاً على تخاذل المجتمع الدولي، وقد صوّت ممثلو الجماعة في الائتلاف برفض المشاركة، كما نصّ قرارها على ألا يكون لها ممثّل في الوفد المشارك في جنيف 2
ولذا فإنّنا في جماعة الإخوان المسلمين ننفي نفياً قاطعاً إيفاد الأستاذ نذير الحكيم أو أيّ شخص آخر ممثلاً عن الجماعة في مؤتمر جنيف 2، مؤكّدين عدم مشاركتنا في المؤتمر الدولي
Clarification from the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria about purported presence of a representative in the Geneva II Conference
News Agencies have reported that the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood sent a delegation to the Geneva 2 conference as part of the coalition of forces opposed to the Syrian regime.
A representative of the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood has clarified that the Brothers refused to take part in the opposition coalition delegation to Geneva 2, citing weakness of the coalition and as a protest against the ineffectiveness of the international community. Representatives of the Muslim Brotherhood made their refusal to participate in the conference very clear, a position which was clarified in an earlier official statement rejecting participation in Geneva.
Therefore, we in the Muslim Brotherhood categorically deny sending Nazir al-Hakim or any people associated with our movement to the Geneva 2 conference, and stress our absolute refusal to participate in it.
