Fatah: Mandela a global leader and with his passing our people have lost a great friend

6 December 2013

The Palestinian National Liberation Movement, Fatah, described the late freedom fighter and president Nelson Mandela as a global leader and great friend to the Palestinian people and their martyred leader, Yasser Arafat.

According to a statement issued by the Office of Information and Culture this morning following the announcement of the passing of freedom fighter and South African president, Nelson Mandela: “We share in the South African and all free people’s grief at the passing of a freedom fighter and global leader. He was a great friend to the Palestinian people, as well as our leader and commander of our revolution, martyred President Yasser Arafat. Our consolation is that Mandela struck a human model, the type of which is rare in sacrifice, wisdom, insight and creativity in struggle for the victory of the cause of freedom and independence for his people, and for all oppressed peoples. On top of which the Palestinian people show great respect and appreciate for Mandela, and for love as a model. Our movement and our people are proud that he was among the loyal supporters of our cause and the volition of our people and their right to freedom and independence.”

Fatah saluted the spirit of Nelson Mandela, who’s honourable stance with its people and movement were considered a milestone in terms of the relationship between liberation movements and struggling people. Fatah confirmed with the passing of Mandela that he could be called the greatest friend to the Palestinian people, after leaving his clear mark on bonds of their political and human relationship with the friendly people of South Africa. They promised Mandela’s spire to fulfill the value of legitimate struggle for which he laid the foundations for liberation movements with his friend, the commander of the Palestinian revolution, Yasser Arafat.
